Call for abstracts

The organizing committee of the 12th Hardwood Conference would be pleased to receive high quality abstracts on all subjects concerned with hardwoods. The conference will feature key-note speakers, technical and poster presentations on various topics with special emphasis on hardwoods, including:
    • Hardwood resources and assessment
    • Hardwood forest management: challenges and opportunities
    • Hardwood: stemwood characteristic, their manipulation and interrelation to wood properties
    • Hardwood structure and properties
    • Plantation wood
    • Regulation of Timber Trade
    • New aspects of the hardwood processing chain
    • Drying, modification & functionalization
    • Machining & Manufacturing
    • Durability, biodegradation and preservation
    • Hardwood in composites and engineered materials
    • New hardwood product approaches
    • Product design and marketing initiatives
    • Role and place of hardwoods in the circular economy

Submission of abstracts

Abstracts (between 150 and 1000 words) should be submitted during the registration (Registration link), or sent by email to the local organizers (hardwood-conference@uni-sopron.hu) until 03 April 2026 (EXTENDED!). Abstracts are only used for the pre-evaluation of submissions. NO “Book of abstracts” will be prepared. In case the abstract is selected for a poster or an oral presentation, a full paper will be requested. Abstracts must be in Microsoft Word format (.docx ONLY). Please use the template below!

Full-paper submission

Authors can choose between two publishing options of their paper. Papers will be only published in the chosen option. Options are described below.

Option 1: Publishing full paper in the Conference Proceedings (included in the conference fee)In case the abstract is selected for a POSTER presentation, a full paper of maximum 5 pages long is requested.In case the abstract is selected for an ORAL presentation, a full paper of maximum 10 pages long is requested.

Full papers must be in Microsoft Word format (.docx ONLY). Please use the templates below!

Full-papers should be submitted during your registration (Registration link), or sent by email to the local organizers (hardwood-conference@uni-sopron.hu) until 15 May 2026 (EXTENDED).

Conference proceedings will be submitted for evaluation in Web of Science database. Proceedings of 8-9-10-11th Hardwood Conferences are already accepted by the database.

Submitted articles will only be published if the authors present them at the conference.

Option 2: Publishing full paper in a Special Issue of the journal Forests (MDPI, Q1, IF: 2.5) (APC is NOT included in the conference fee!)

Special Issue title and link: 12th Hardwood Conference – Sopron

Submission deadline of full papers: 30 September 2026

Requirements of the journal Forests has to be fulfilled (format, page limits, etc.).

The accepted articles will be published online continuously, after the usual peer review process of the journal. The article processing charge (CHF 2600) has to be entirely covered by the authors.

Conference fees

Full price: 500 € (2 conference days)
Early bird: 400 € (2 conference days) (registration through the online registration tool is mandatory, see below)
Students: 250 € (2 conference days)
Conference dinner for accompanying person: 50 € (Does not include conference attendance, lunches and coffee breaks)

Full, early bird and student registration includes: conference attendance, lunches, coffee breaks, dinner, conference proceedings (NOT Forests SI).
